Ty Banas Lynching

  1. Awesome poem Ty. It was clever to take the perspective of the tree here and describe it from that point of view. It made a statement that everyone and everything was being affected by lynching and hurt by lynching. The last line is the best, when you describe that no matter what color skin you have, you are the same as any man.

  2. Great poem, I really like the approach you took on it where the tree is feeling bad for the blacks that died on his branch. The tree is also wishing he could have done something to help the blacks that died. I think that the last stanza was proably the strongest because it was saying that every man is the same, no matter what race they are.

  3. I like how you were creative enough to be the first to do the poem from the tree's perspective. I remember you saying you would do so in class but I didn't think you would carry out with it because I didn't think you would be able to come up with something. However, you proved me wrong! Great job. Also, I like how you made the tree have feelings and personality. It was neat how you mentioned that you felt bad for the black man and I also found it interesting that you closed with a question.
